Cambridge Carbonates has embarked on our first geothermal project
Peter, Jo and Julie are working with colleagues in EBN and TNO to assess the geothermal potential of Dinantian carbonates in the Netherlands.
EAGE workshop
Our colleagues Benoit Vincent and Lucy Manifold attended the EAGE workshop: Reservoir Characterization and Modelling Workflows for Giant Carbonate Field Developments of the Middle East in Abu Dhabi 17-21 February.
Benoit presented a talk on: Depositional and diagenetic controls on carbonate reservoir property distribution in a supergiant reservoir, SE Iraq.

Happy Birthday Cambridge Carbonates
Our paper: The Morag Field, Block 16/29a, UK North Sea by Jon Gluyas, Miroslaw Słowakiewicz, Maurice Tucker and Peter Gutteridge
has been accepted for publication in the Geological Society of London "United Kingdom Oil and Gas Fields".
Abstract:
The Morag Field is a small oilfield underlying the Maureen Field in UK Block 16/29a. Black oil is trapped within Upper Permian, Morag Member, vuggy and fractured dolomite rafts between 9,300 ft and 10,600 ft TVDSS. The dolomite reservoir occurs at the top of a Zechstein salt dome. Morag was discovered in 1979 by well, 16/29a-A1, the first platform well drilled for the overlying Maureen Field with its Palaeocene sandstone reservoir. Morag was produced via a single well (16/29a-A1) between 1991 and 1994. Three more platform wells were drilled into the Permian interval prior to Maureen Field start up but only one penetrated oil-bearing dolomite (16/29a-A2). An additional well (16/29a‑A23Z) was drilled into the Morag Field in 1993. The well encountered Morag Member at virgin pressure and tested oil at high flow rate but then the well failed due to mechanical problems. Oil in place was calculated to be about 24 mmbbl in four independent fault blocks. Ultimately 16/29a-A1 delivered 2.6 mmstb from a fault block calculated to have held 6.7 mmbbl STOIIP.
CCL Girls go to Bollywood!
We had the lovely Aruna Kailey as our dance teacher, and together with jangly belts and bindis we stepped to various songs and learnt a lot of moves!
It was lots of fun and think everyone enjoyed themselves!

Greater UAE area palaeogeography maps
In preparation for the upcoming 2nd Abu Dhabi Bid Round in November this year, Cambridge Carbonates are preparing an extensive suite of palaeogeography maps for the Greater UAE Area. This follows on from the success of our palaeogeography mapsets of Iraq, and the Arabian Plate Foreland Basin. 3rd onshore bid round in the Croatian Dinarides
Following on from the recent announcement by the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency of the 3rd onshore bid round in the Croatian Dinarides (bid round open until September 10th 2019), Cambridge Carbonates present a comprehensive multiclient report evaluating the existing and future hydrocarbon potential of carbonate systems of the circum-Adriatic region.

Finding Petroleum Meeting
On June 25th, Cambridge Carbonates had a stand at the Finding Petroleum Meeting at the Geol Soc London. Jo also gave a presentation where she discussed, amongst other things, our recent palaeogeographic mapping work in the UAE, with a presentation titled: "Underexplored opportunities in the Arabian Plate: application of palaeogeographic mapping and global analogues". Bathurst Meeting student winners!
It was a great pleasure for Cambridge Carbonates to be in the judging team and award the prizes for the best student presentation and best student poster at the Bathurst Conference in Palma! Congratulations to the winners and runners up – the quality of carbonate research out there at the moment is exceptional!

Welcome
This month Cambridge Carbonates welcomed Elias Koko and Jozanga Fernandes, final year International (Angola) Geology students from the University of Birmingham. They will be investigating stratigraphic traps in carbonate reservoirs and compiling a petrographic atlas of Mexican carbonate reservoir facies. We look forward to working with you both!
Salt tectonics conference
Pete will be in London for the Salt tectonics conference at the Geological Society where he'll be presenting a paper with his co-authors Andrew Horbury and Yohann Poprawski on Passive and reactive diapir growth and carbonate sedimentation in the Sureste Basin, SE Mexico and the Basque-Cantabrian Basin, NE Spain.
Parliamentary Review

Eleni Mloukie and Toby Gledhill attended the Advanced Workshop on Carbonate-Evaporite Systems run by Pete Gutteridge. Toby said, “This was a really excellent workshop which directly related to the challenges faced by our clients.”
